Progress

Before I left I was actually able to make a good amount of progress on my Scrappy Windmill quilt and am debating back and forth on whether I should make a smaller version for a baby quilt. It's actually not because I've lost steam, but becasue I think that with so many fun and sweet prints that this would be adorable wrapped on some snuggly, little bundle of joy. I had also thought that this would be a fun "I spy" quilt... can't you just imagine being tucked in with a cute toddler searching together for cats, strawberries, foxes, trees, glasses, crickets, clothespins, frogs, cameras, tiny mice on bikes, snails, tea cups, hedgehogs, birds, and more?

I've still not decided if I will keep the brown blocks in or not, but because I had them made up, I kept them in for the photo. I'll of course need to add a few more blocks even for a baby size quilt... what do you think? With enlarging my currents WIP's it might also be nice to finish something a little smaller instead. Speaking of my other WIP's... remember that little stack of snippits I had? Well, take a look at them now:

As crazy as it might sound, I actually liked working on three different projects at a time. What about you, do you work on multiple projects at once or do you stick to one thing at a time?

  1. Whatever you decide on the size of your quilt, its going to be beautiful! Love the windmills! I tend to work on one or two projects at a time. Only because I love having finishes!

  2. Love the Scrappy Windmill blocks... I have a bad track record of quilts getting away from me and baby sized ones end up king sized... sometime smaller is better - LOL! Oh I've always got multiple projects going. My quilter's ADHD just doesn't let me stay on one thing too long. I bounce from project to project but I do eventually finish. Have fun! happy stitching!

  3. I can definitely see the windmill quilt as a baby quilt, though I can see it equally as a lap quilt for adults! Definitely would add cheerfulness to any room. I like it with the brown blocks. They are not so dark that they change the feel of the quilt or stand out in a way that distracts. I tend to work on one project at a time...but that does not mean there are not several WIPS waiting in the wings in case I need a change of pace. I just don't have space to keep multiple projects ready to go, so switching projects wastes a lot of time reorganizing that could be spent sewing.

  4. That windmill quilt is darling. Yes, leave in the brown for all the reasons quiltmusings gave. I like to work on two or three projects at a time. One is more a I'll sew a seam at the end of the one I'm really doing -- a la Bonnie Hunter's leaders/enders. Then there is the main, I want to get it done project. Sometimes I throw in another project. I don't know how I don't get confused by it all but I tend not to. Of course, one has to be really focused and organized!

  5. Call me a big kid, but what I loved about this quilt from the get-go is that it seems like a quilter's I-Spy, a way to savor all your own favorite bits. Cute for a baby of course, but my vote is to finish it as a throw for yourself! Definitely love the browns in there!

  6. Looking fab! Personally, I think working on multiple projects is useful, because it keeps things fresh and when you get tired of or frustrated with a certain project, you can change things up with another project for a while. So far this week, I've worked on four different projects and made progress on all of them, which feels great. :)

  7. Before I got to that part of your post, I was thinking about you enlarging your other quilts, and voted - go ahead and stop at baby-size.
Granted, it was in regards to raising children, but, I once read that you should quit while everyone is happy. At the park? Don't wait til kids are hungry and hot - leave while everyone is still having fun. I can see the wisdom in that line of thinking, and think this is a good place to apply it ;-) Quit while you are still having having fun. And you are right - it *will* make an excellent baby quilt. (Of course, it would make a perfectly lovely lap quilt too. But if you decided to go lap size, you might just decide it has to be bed sized, next ;-)
I have no opinion on the brown blocks. I don't hate them, but I can see how you would find them distracting. (oh, and you were right about cutting off my ovals on the patriotic table topper. I'd already finished it at that point, and yeah, I ruined it.)
I prefer working on one project (that requires the machine) at a time. That said (not counting my 2 hand-quilting projects (which is 1 too many) and my EPP project) I currently am working on 4 projects. That also doesn't count any garment sewing that I may decide I simply must do *now*. I have problems ;-)
